Dep Ed USec graces eco- brick launching inApayao

LUNA,
Apayao -- Department of Education Undersecretary Alberto Muyot recently
graced launching of an eco bricks project of the DepEd-Cordillera
Administrative Region here.
In said event participated in by six CAR schools division
superintendents, principals, teachers and students of Apayao Provincial
Science High School, Regional Director Ellen Donato called on superintendents to encourage
their pupils to make eco bricks and contribute in making clean
communities to live in.
The 1800 elementary and high schools of the Cordillera
region through their respective principals were urged to make
bottle bricks following the eco brick guide distributed during said event.
The guide book written and packaged by Canadian artist Russell Maier
initiated making of eco bricks in 263 schools of Mountain Province with support
of schools supervisor Irene Bakisan.
Donato said copies of the limited guide pamphlet initially
published by DepEd shall be reproduced by respective school heads to guide
students how to make eco bricks.
Eco bricks are 1.5 ml plastic soda bottles containing waste- candy
and biscuit wrappers, cellophanes, crushed Styrofoam, anything plastic -
inserted in the bottle with the aid of a stick or a rod and packed
tight.
The eco brick is used to make walls, garden
benches, chairs, or any structure wound and mixed with clay, sand and rice
straw.
In said event, Maier showed students of Apayao State Science Highs
School how to make the eco bricks.
Aside from Donato,
officials who graced the affair at APSHS were: Rep. Eleanor Bulut-Begtang,
Board Member- Gallen, DepEd Undersecretary Alberto T. Muyot, Assistant Regional Director Estela L. Carino
among others.
